Renewable Energy Technician Certificate
The Bramson ORT College Renewable Energy Technician Certificate program is designed for individuals who wish to learn how to install and maintain photovoltaic systems, wind turbines, solar thermal systems and biofuel manufacturing equipment. Students will learn about design requirements, installation guidelines, materials and resources, green buildings, safety issues, maintenance and troubleshooting, and legal considerations of renewable energy systems. Students will also be trained in energy assessment, auditing and efficiency.
Upon completion of the certificate, graduates will have the opportunity to pursue the following certifications
-
PV Installer Certification – by (NABCEP) North American Board Certified Energy Practitioner
-
Solar Thermal Installer Certification – by (NABCEP) North American Board Certified Energy Practitioner
-
Green Associate – by LEED - U.S. Green Building Council
-
Building Design and Construction – by LEED - U.S. Green Building Council
A range of employers, from manufacturers producing component parts for renewable technologies to construction and utility companies, will need workers with knowledge and skills in energy efficiency and renewable energy systems. Without a skilled workforce to manufacture, install, monitor and maintain renewable energy systems, the nation will be unable to achieve its critically important goals of energy independence and security. Graduates will be prepared to work in entry-level positions in energy-related fields. They will be able to work with a team of highly skilled professionals in the renewable energy industry. Credits obtained by students while in the Renewable Energy Technician Certificate program are transferable to two-year and four-year programs at Bramson ORT College and other colleges and universities worldwide. In order to earn the Renewable Energy Technician Certificate, a student must complete at least 30 credits.

Renewable energy is a rapidly growing field locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. A study conducted for the American Solar Energy Society indicated that in 2006 alone 8.5 million jobs were generated in the renewable energy industry. That same report suggested that by 2030, the renewable energy sector may account for as many as one in four jobs.
The Renewable Energy Technician program will open up many doors for students. Graduates will have a wide variety of employment opportunities thanks to the strong emphasis on electromechanical systems that this program provides. Graduates will be able to find entry-level positions with electrical firms, construction businesses, ethanol plants, biodiesel plants and wind turbine manufacturers. As large companies continue to explore and expand renewable energy infrastructure, the need for trained technicians will continue to grow.
Earnings in the Renewable Energy field typically run from $25,000-35,000 annually as starting salary. Below you will find a table of average annual salaries for different positions in the renewable energy field.
