Pharmacy Technician Associate (A.A.S.) Degree
The Pharmacy Technician Associate Degree in Applied Science (A.A.S.) is designed to prepare graduates to work in the pharmaceutical field as technicians. Bramson ORT College's Pharmacy Technician program will teach students medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacy computing, inventory and billing, medication preparation, compounding and quality customer care, among other things.
The curriculum is designed to teach students administrative and clinical pharmacy practices in a variety of settings, from hospitals and large medical centers, to small community-based pharmacies. Furthermore, the curriculum takes into account the industry's accrediting bodies' requirements, such as the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board), CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) and NHA (National Health Career Association). Students will be taught by experienced industry professionals in state-of-the-art, modern pharmacy laboratories.
The program will focus not only on providing students with the necessary skills demanded by the pharmaceutical industry, but also on giving them the opportunity to continue their education in pharmacy sciences. Moreover, the mandatory internship course is a key course in each student's learning. This course will allow students to get direct job experience and ascertain the appropriate skills to make them competitive members of the workplace. Furthermore, the integration of pharmacy and business courses gives students a better understanding and training in pharmacy management.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to perform such duties as entering prescription orders in the computer; creating and updating patients' health and insurance information; communicating with insurance companies and carriers to obtain payment for the prescription; preparing pharmacy inventory; assisting the pharmacist with filling and labeling prescriptions; assisting the pharmacist in compounding oral solutions, ointments and creams; placing orders on the shelves; and verifying all associated paperwork.
Credits obtained by students while in the Pharmacy Technician program are transferable to four-year programs at other colleges and universities worldwide. In order to earn the Pharmacy Technician Associate Degree at Bramson ORT College, a student must complete at least 60 credits.
